The Branches

The Royal Commission is organised within three branches, each of which has responsibility for a different aspect of our work.

Survey Branch uses a variety of techniques including documentary investigation, aerial survey, ground and digital survey and photography to research, record and interpret the built environment. The Emergency Building Recording section responds to consultations regarding planning proposals and Listed Buildings and Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

Information Management Branch ensures that the database of historic sites and monuments of Wales, Coflein is maintained and developed in order to provide an easily accessible and authoritative record of sites and monuments. Information Management Branch also takes responsibility for the care and development of the National Monuments Record of Wales.

Publications and Outreach Branch disseminates information through;

  • The publication of books and leaflets
  • A free library and reader service
  • Learning services
  • Lectures and training days
  • Community outreach

The Administration Team deals with operational planning, finance, facilities and human resources.
